bye for now.

a few days have now passed since our first staging of Two Golden Hours. we were so delighted by the enthusiastic response of our guests & their enjoyment of our unique retail event of escape & beauty.

thank you so very much to all those who helped us bring our vision for this event to life:

to our lovely visitors who attended from far & wide,

to those who generously assisted promotion both online & in print,

to our dear family & friends for their unwavering encouragement (& manpower on the day!)

to our musicians who set the atmosphere,

to our guest designers who brought a sense of community &

of course, to Yandina Station for providing such a stunning location (oh & very yummy cream teas!) as the perfect stage for Two Golden Hours.

we are slowly contemplating what might be next for Two Golden Hours: as a pop-up shop, we believe the appeal lies in impermanence, the opportunity to create a truly intriguing space which exists only for a short period & the anticipation of when, where and how we will ‘pop-up’ again.

stayed tuned…

stunning images by Alischa Herrmann (first) & Sarah Bowe, thank you!

blue skies or grey

The weather forecast looks a little unsteady. Rain, wind, cold…. or maybe a little sunshine? No matter the forecast, Two Golden Hours will go ahead. We are mostly indoors.

Rain and cool? Bring a brolly, warm coat and enjoy a coffee in the homestead.

Sunny and clear? Bring a hat and enjoy the music and afternoon tea  on the lawn.

Only two more sleeps! See you soon.

GUEST DESIGNERS: POSTALE SOCIETY

a collaboration between Louise of looseleaf.paper and Kristina of oldyarns., the Postale Society is a subscription membership to a world of stories told through correspondence.

crumpled pages smoothed out,
bent corners turned back,
taped together remnants of a letter.

keepsakes treasured.

knowing our stories
are part of where we come from,
where we are,
and where we will go.

launching today, subscription to the first found series of the Postale Society will be available at Two Golden Hours; including a limited edition postcard packet, which will be a mood board of kinds for your wall, images and mementos hinting at more clues to the lost story.

the Postale Society: coming soon to Two Golden Hours.

SPECIAL ORDER: SIMPLE BLOOMS

visiting the flower market to select blooms for Two Golden Hours.

there’ll be lots of buckets filled with bunches of flowers, as if just from the garden, ready for you to take home. we’re aiming for that Melbourne/Sydney sidewalk flower stall feel…

we’re hoping for jonquils, hyacinths & roses although nature & fate will have the last say in that.

only 5 sleeps to go!

SPECIAL ORDER: CERAMIC DOLLS

after release of the postcards for Two Golden Hours, there has been a bit of talk about those featured ceramic dolls.

after much searching high & low, we have managed to secure a shipment of antique german ceramic dolls heads excavated near an old doll factory, circa 1860 - 1900.

definitely a little odd & rather quirky, we think they’re rather special nonetheless. available soon at Two Golden Hours…

only 6 sleeps to go!

GUEST DESIGNER: PAPER BOAT PRESS

we are so honoured to have Kylie Johnson of paper boat press participating as a guest designer for our pop-up shop. Kylie’s work is well known locally & nationally, and recently through an exclusive range of vessels commissioned by Anthropologie.

Kylie’s unique way with words, paper and clay is expressed through her ceramic quote tags, poetry vessels, poetry books & journals.

From her…“my ceramic art practice has always started and ended with words and poetry. Words are to my ceramic work like any mark, decoration, or design. As well as being a ceramic artist I am also a poet, and in my current practice it is these words that are used in the creation of my ceramic vessels.”

“A strange thing has happened along the way also… I have found putting the words from the pages of my poetry books to a ceramic vessel has allowed the poems to have a different audience. Someone who wouldn’t normally like poetry in the form of lines on a page are led into it by means of clay. Some vessels need to be moved and turned to read the poem, some people touch to feel the indentation of words. The poem becomes an object that can be held… a keepsake, a message, a story… just in different clothes.”

so beautifully said.

showing alongside Kylie’s main work, will be her collaboration with Sarah Bowe in “wait”. Organically formed paper weights & sculptures, uniting clay and crochet.

paper boat press: appearing soon at Two Golden Hours.

guest artist: ayla

Oh sunshine, sometimes we fall but we’ll rise
Sunshine, improvise if you don’t want them to see you cry
Sunshine, sunshine look on the bright side
On the bright side...”

SPECIAL ORDER: VINTAGE RIBBON

a special order of imported vintage ribbon for our haberdashery room, including yards & yards of:

- vintage 1930-40s French woven ribbon in jet black, robins egg blue, creamy beige & dark slate grey; this ribbon was used many years ago to bind or cover the seams of garments, hats and the like, decades before the machine over-locker stitch

- vintage Polish velvet ribbon 1930’s in jet black

- vintage 1930’s French Petersham edge grosgrain ribbon in jet black & creamy ivory

- vintage 1940’s-50’s Italian velvet ribbon in dolphin gray

we have sourced this ribbon from a supplier whose French grandmother, now in her 90’s, was a seamstress all her life & many of these ribbons once belonged to her. which makes them just a little more special.
